This week was blessed with a lot of positive geopolitical changes! The UK gained a new PM, Mr. Keir Starmer, replacing old PM Mr. Rishi Sunak, and surprisingly, the new PM would be more beneficial to UK and India ties. The Netherlands got a new PM, Mr. Dick Scoof, who was an ex-spy chief and aims to curtail the asylum issue.
But the highlight still remains the Indian T20 World Cup win, which Team India gained with a no-loss streak. The matches were full of nail biting and minor heart attacks, but India recovered from the loss incurred in the 2023 ODI World Cup!
On this happy note, let us start our weekly roundup and present to you the latest and most relevant news of the week!
56% of world’s oceans have turned green!
NASA’s Aqua satellite has found out that 56% of the world’s oceans have turned green from their original blue colour. Although water is colourless, but the blue colour was a result of sun rays and sky reflection.
And now, due to the drastic increase in the population of Phyto planktons, the colour has changed to green over two decades, i.e., 2002–2022. They release CO2, or carbon dioxide, while carrying out photosynthesis. Photosynthesis happens due to the green pigment called chlorophyll.
This phenomenon is abrupt in the southern Indian Ocean, especially near the equator, as it gets a lot of sunlight. This is causing phyto-blooms in these oceans, and their excess is attributed to a decrease in aquatic life forms that feed on phytoplankton.(Source)
Google has redesigned online shopping’s Content API
Google is trying to improve its e-commerce experience with their latest Merchant API Beta, which focuses on a better portrayal of businesses’ capabilities and enhances product management.
Important features that need to be paid attention to,
- Modular design that has standalone sub-API improvements
- Launch of new sub API such as Notifications, Data Sources, Inventory, Product and more
- Alignment improvements via the new proposals for the Google API
Ecommerce is the biggest spender on Google, and these features will boost business! But it does lack a full match with the content API, as of yet.
In other news, Google is trying to make its presence felt in India by adding the Tulu language to Google Translate. Also, Google is making travelling with friends and family easier with an update to Google Maps!(Source)
WhatsApp has launched a lot of new features
WhatsApp has aligned itself with Indian monsoons and is raining down new features one after the other! Here are the four features they just released or are about to release:
Video Notes in Chats
This will allow video notes to be sent in chats. This was earlier a hassle as you would have to record separate messages for each different chat. This is currently available to Beta testers!
Blue Ticks
Just like everyone else, be it Meta or X, WhatsApp will replace its verification mark, which was a green tick, with a blue tick!
AI Avatars
WhatsApp, along with Messenger and Instagram, will have an AI avatar feature soon. It is undergoing testing right now! It is being tested for Android 2.24.14.7 via WhatsApp Beta.
Message forwarding in Channels
With this new feature, channel owners will be able to forward messages from their personal chat into the channels. This will simplify the management of channels on WhatsApp and is currently being tested by beta testers.
Can you imagine four new features in a week? Well, WhatsApp can!
All things Google in June 2024: Webmaster Report
This is a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of thing when a tech giant like Google launches six updates to its algorithms in one month, i.e., June 2024. The webmaster came up with a report on the same to ensure nothing is missed by the curious bystanders!
Out of these six updates,
- 2 were related to Spam.
- 4 were related to the Search Ranking and its volatility.
Google added 12 AI updates as well! All in all, this year has been filled to the brim by Google updates, and it is best to study them individually in the Webmaster report! (Source)
SEO’s current state after Google Search updates of 2024
A never-before major leak happened at Google, which leaked roughly 14000 lines of algorithmic code linked to Google Search. What it meant was that now Google’s Search and Ranking parameters were out in the open.
This made Google take serious damage control actions. Starting with accepting the leak and cautioning people about the data in there, and then launching six updates in June 2024.
They have removed the infinity scroll in Google Searches, which means the first page of SERPs now ends at 10 search results. They are also planning to prioritise PPC or paid results on top of the SERPS and increase their number as well.
In short, a lesser number of organic results might be displayed on the first page! This is serious news for SEO but Google ensured that websites with value-added content, that helps users reliably, have nothing to fear! In related news, Google also announced a Core Algorithmic update to Google Search. (Source)
AI infused Biotech stocks to buy
Biotechnology is a vast scientific field that helps bridge the gap between biology and technology. Since it means bringing harmony between the two opposites, it is challenging, to say the least!
But with the AI era of 2024, biotech is getting the help it needs! And due to this, biotech companies that are infusing AI are reaching unimaginable heights in the stock markets.
A few of them are:
- Corbus Pharmaceuticals [CRBP] -> 685% growth this year
- JanOne [JANX] -> 300% growth
- Skye Bioscience [SKYE] -> 180% growth year-to-date
As per Google’s DeepMind CEO, Mr. Demis Hassabis, the biotech industry with AI is bound to rake in USD 100 billion!
Remember how biotech helped synthesise the COVID vaccine? Well, it was made possible due to AI infusion, which took away all the data analysis tasks and left the researchers finding solutions and teaching them! (Source)
